About Us



The Institute of Global Health is a partnership-based organization. It is registered in Tbilisi, Georgia, where a small core team operates, while a broader group of collaborators contribute from different locations around the world. We enjoy a delightful circle of partners and always look for global health aficionados to further expand our network.



Board



George Shakarishvili



Dr. Shakarishvili is founder of the Tbilisi Institute of Global Health. Currently he serves as Director of Strategic and Technical Initiatives at the Task Force for Global Health in Atlanta, GA. Previously he served as Senior Advisor for Health Systems Strengthening at the Global Fund for HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Geneva, Switzerland, Director of Global Health Group at Chemonics International, Director of Health Unit at International Medical Corps (both Washington, DC) and Director of the World Bank Health Reform Program at the Ministry of Health of Georgia. He was a founding Executive Director of the Eurasian Academic Alliance for Global Health.





Tea Collins



Dr. Collins is Lead of Global NCD Platform at the World Health Organization in Geneva. Previously she was the first Executive Director of Global NCD Alliance - a partnership of over 2,000 organizations in 170 countries and also served at the International Atomic Agency as an Advisor for comprehensive cancer control. Dr. Collins holds MD degree from the Tbilisi State Medical University, PhD from the George Washington and MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.





Simon Gabrichidze



Dr. Gabrichidze is a co-founder of the Tbilisi Institute of Global Health, previously Executive Director of Welfare Foundation in Georgia,. He is an academic faculty of the University of Georgia. A medical doctor with a Master of Health Management and a Master of Development Studies degrees from Heidelberg, Germany and Erasmus, the Netherlands universities respectively, Simon has over 15 years of practical experience in managing large-scale international health programs, and technical expertise in healthcare management and economics, healthcare financing and health reforms.





Susana Frazao Pinheiro



Dr. Pinheiro directs healthcare at the UCL School of Management and acts as Scientific Advisor at the Blavatnik School of Governance, University of Oxford. Previously, she co-founded the Social Business School, Portugal and served as Executive Director, was on the Founding Committee of Oxford Entrepreneurs and of a digital health start-up. Susana holds Doctorate in Clinical Medicine and MBA from Oxford, and MSc in Tropical Medical Microbiology from Portugal.





Olaf Horstick



Dr. Olaf Horstick is Director of Teaching at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health. He is a Medical Doctor specialized in public health medicine in low/middle-income countries with about 30 years experience at the local, national and global levels. Academic specific interest in Neglected Tropical Diseases with focus on arboviral control.





Yanzhong Huang



Professor Huang is a Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, where he directs the Global Health Governance Roundtable series. He is also a professor and director of global health studies at Seton Hall University's School of Diplomacy and International Relations, where he developed the first academic concentration among US professional international affairs schools that explicitly addresses security aspects of health issues.





Flemming Konradsen



Professor Konradsen is Director of School of Global Health, University of Copenhagen. He has more than twenty years of research and programming experience in the field of environmental health and global health. Prof. Konradsen is responsible for a number of programs aimed at building research capacity at university level in Asia, Africa and has significant involvement with educational programs in East Africa, South Asia and the Nordic region. He has worked for a number of international research organizations, development NGOs





Barbara McPake



Professor McPake is Director of the Nossal Institute for Global Health at the University of Melbourne. Previously she directed the Institute for International Health and Development at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. She also served as Head of Health Policy Unit and Director of the Knowledge Program on Health System Development, supported by the UK Department for International Development . Barbara holds a PhD in Health Economics from the University of Wales College of Medicine.





Alexander Sulakvelidze



Dr. Sulakvelidze is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Intralytix and an internationally recognized expert in phage technology and infectious disease epidemiology. He has published extensively on the subjects of phage therapy and is the author of several patents related to the field. Dr. Sulakvelidze's phage therapy research has been featured in multiple international news outlets.









TBILISI INSTITUTE OF GLOBAL HEALTH
